TESTING AND TROUBLESHOOTING4-2• Network management has disabled the port.• The port is segmented either because the collision detector was onfor more than 110 μsec or the MRXI detected more than 30consecutive collisions on the attached segment. The affected portremains segmented until a good packet is transmitted/receivedwithout collisions. If the LNK LED is still not lit, contact Cabletron Systems TechnicalSupport.4.2 TESTING SEGMENTS ATTACHED TO THE MRXIYou can test the Ethernet segments connected to the MRXI to determineif they comply with IEEE 802.3 specifications. To do this, use twoEthernet node testers, such as Cabletron Systems LAN-MD™ attached inplace of the Ethernet devices normally attached on any two links. Figure4-1 shows several methods for connecting the LAN-MD to test differentmedia types and links connected to the MRXI. The LAN-MDs exchangevalid data packets for end-to-end testing. To test any single link; select two links (the link you want to test and asecond link that you know operates properly), and perform the followingsteps:Note: The flexibility of the MRXI permits a variety of media combinations, resulting in many possible test configurations. Since it is impossible tocover every combination of network media and MRXI configuration, minoradjustments to the testing procedures given here may be necessary totest your specific configuration.1. Connect two LAN-MDs, one at the end of each of the Ethernet linksyour are testing. If you connect one or both of the LAN-MDs to asegment that is attached to:
