3. Turn the wheel wrench counterclockwise to lowerthe spare tire to the ground. Continue turning thewrench until the spare tire can be pulled outfrom under the vehicle.4. Tilt the retainer (C) and slip it through thewheel opening to remove the spare tire from thecable (B).5. Turn the wrench clockwise until you feel two slipsor hear two clicks after removing the spare tire toraise the cable back up.Do not store a full-size or a flat road tire under thevehicle. See Storing a Flat or Spare Tire andTools on page 5-79.To continue changing the flat tire, see Removing theFlat Tire and Installing the Spare Tire on page 5-73.If the spare tire will not lower, the secondary latch maybe engaged causing the tire not to lower. Do thefollowing to check the cable:1. Check under the vehicle to see if the cable is visible.2. If it’s not visible, see Secondary Latch System onpage 5-77.If it is visible, first try to tighten the cable by turningthe wheel wrench clockwise until you hear twoclicks or feel it skip twice. You cannot over-tightenthe cable.3. Loosen the cable then by turning the wrenchcounterclockwise three or four turns.4. Tighten the cable all the way and then loosen it atleast two times, if the spare tire has not lowered.If the spare tire did lower to the ground, continuewith Step 4 under Removing the Spare Tireand Tools on page 5-71.If you still cannot lower the spare tire to the ground,see Secondary Latch System on page 5-77.5-72
