To program a new key do the following:1. Verify that the new key has PK3+ stamped on it.2. Insert the current driver’s key in the ignitionand start the engine. If the engine will not start seeyour dealer for service.3. After the engine has started, turn the key to OFF,and remove the key.4. Insert the key to be programmed and turn it to ONwithin ten seconds of removing the previous key.5. The security light will turn off once the key has beenprogrammed. It may not be apparent that thesecurity light went on due to how quickly the key isprogrammed.6. Repeat the Steps 1 through 4 if additional keys areto be programmed.If you are ever driving and the security light comes onand stays on, you will be able to restart your engineif you turn it off. The theft-deterrent system, however,is not working properly and must be serviced byyour dealer. Your vehicle is not protected by thetheft-deterrent system at this time.In an emergency, contact Cadillac Roadside Assistance.See Roadside Service on page 7-6.Starting and OperatingYour VehicleNew Vehicle Break-InNotice: Your vehicle does not need an elaborate“break-in.” But it will perform better in thelong run if you follow these guidelines for thefirst 500 miles (805 km):• Do not drive at any one speed — fast or slow.• Do not exceed 70 mph (113 km/h).• Do not make full-throttle starts; also refrainfrom using the full throttle while driving.If these procedures are not followed, your engine,axle or other parts could be damaged.Avoid making hard stops for the first 200 miles(322 km) or so. During this time your new brakelinings are not yet broken in. Hard stops with newlinings can mean premature wear and earlierreplacement. Follow this break-in guideline everytime you get new linings.Do not tow a trailer during break-in. See Towing aTrailer on page 4-52 for more information.2-20
