The passenger sensing system is designed to turn offthe right front passenger frontal airbag if:. The right front passenger seat is unoccupied.. The system determines that an infant is present ina rear-facing infant seat.. The system determines that a small child ispresent in a child restraint.. The system determines that a small child ispresent in a booster seat.. A right front passenger takes his/her weight off ofthe seat for a period of time.. The right front passenger seat is occupied by asmaller person, such as a child who has outgrownchild restraints.. Or, if there is a critical problem with the airbagsystem or the passenger sensing system.When the passenger sensing system has turned off theright front passenger's frontal airbag, the off indicatorwill light and stay lit to remind you that the airbag is off.See Passenger Airbag Status Indicator on page 4‑55.If a child restraint has been installed and the onindicator is lit, turn the vehicle off. Remove the childrestraint from the vehicle and reinstall the child restraintfollowing the child restraint manufacturer's directionsand refer to Securing a Child Restraint in the RightFront Seat Position on page 2‑48.If, after reinstalling the child restraint and restarting thevehicle, the on indicator is still lit, check to make surethat the vehicle's seatback is not pressing the childrestraint into the seat cushion. If this happens, slightlyrecline the vehicle's seatback and adjust the seatcushion if possible. Also make sure the child restraint isnot trapped under the vehicle head restraint. If thishappens, adjust the head restraint.
