For example, just a few drops ofmineral-based oil, such as engine oil, in yourbrake system can damage brake systemparts so badly that they’ll have to be replaced.Don’t let someone put in the wrong kind of fluid.• If you spill brake fluid on your vehicle’s paintedsurfaces, the paint finish can be damaged. See“Appearance Care” in the Index.Brake WearYour vehicle has four-wheel disc brakes.Disc brake pads have built-in wear indicators that makea high-pitched warning sound when the brake padsare worn and new pads are needed. The soundmay come and go or be heard all the time your vehicleis moving (except when you are pushing on thebrake pedal firmly).{CAUTION:The brake wear warning sound means thatsoon your brakes won’t work well. That couldlead to an accident. When you hear the brakewear warning sound, have your vehicleserviced.Notice: Continuing to drive with worn-out brakepads could result in costly brake repair.Some driving conditions or climates may cause a brakesqueal when the brakes are first applied or lightlyapplied. This does not mean something is wrong withyour brakes.Properly torqued wheel nuts are necessary to helpprevent brake pulsation. When tires are rotated, inspectbrake pads for wear and evenly tighten wheel nuts inthe proper sequence to GM torque specifications.Brake linings should always be replaced as completeaxle sets.SeeBrake System Inspection on page 6-17.5-41
