131Chapter 8 - Hardware ReferenceHardware ReferenceB8961 and B8962 Smart Drive MountingYour B8000 Series Smart Drive arrived ready for a minimum depth cabinet mounting.By moving themounting bracket to the narrow side of the heatsink, you can mount the Smart Drive in a minimumwidth configuration. The B8961 and B8962 depend on air flow for cooling. In allbut the least demanding applications, the following mountingguidelines should be observed:• Allow clearance (approximately one inch) for a -FK1 or FK2fan kit if the available airflow appears marginal. The fan kitadds 1.05 in to the depth of the B896n if mounted in theMinimum Depth Configuration. It adds 1.05 in to the width ifmounted in the Minimum Width Configuration.• The heat sink fins should be oriented vertically for convectioncurrents to flow along the fins.• The vertical clearance between a B8000 drive and otherequipment or surfaces of the enclosure should be a minimumof 6.0 inches, and horizontal clearance should be a minimumof 3.0 inches.• High heat-generating equipment should not be mounteddirectly below the B8000 Smart Drives.Forced air cooling may be necessary if air flow is extremely poor, or the ambient temperature isexcessive.MINIMUM WIDTH MOUNTING MINIMUM DEPTH MOUNTING
