The air out of the top of the enclosurecould be ducted outside a facility so the heat losses fromthe backchannel are not dissipated within the controlroom. This ultimately reduces the air-conditioningrequirements of the facility.Back coolingThe backchannel air can also be ventilated in and out ofthe back of a Rittal TS8 enclosure. The backchannel takescool air from outside the facility and returns warm air tooutside the facility, thus reducing air-conditioningrequirements.AirflowEnsure sufficient airflow over the heat sink. The flow rate isshown in Table 3.5.EnclosureprotectionDoor fan(s)/Top fanairflowHeat sink fan(s)IP21/NEMA 1 700 m3/h (412 cfm)* 985 m3/h (580 cfm)*IP54/NEMA 12 525 m3/h (309 cfm)* 985 m3/h (580 cfm)*Table 3.5 Heat Sink Air Flow* Airflow per fan. Enclosure sizes F contain multiple fans.NOTICEThe fan runs for the following reasons:• AMA• DC Hold• Pre-Mag• DC Brake• 60% of nominal current is exceeded.• Specific heat sink temperature exceeded (powersize dependent). The fan runs for minimum 10 minutes.External ductsIf additional duct work is added externally to the Rittalcabinet, calculate the pressure drop in the ducting. Toderate the frequency converter according to the pressuredrop, refer to Illustration 3.19.Mechanical Installation Operating Instructions22 Danfoss A/S © Rev. 06/2014 All rights reserved.
