INTERNAL BYPASS SWITCH INSTALLATIONEaton FERRUPS FE/QFE UPS (500 VA–18 kVA) Installation Guide 164201403 Rev Bwww.eaton.com/powerquality48Installation Wiring Diagrams for Internal Bypass SwitchesThe following notes are referenced in the internal bypass switch wiringdiagrams (Figure 17 through Figure 20). To determine which diagram iscorrect for your site, see Table 21 on page 45.NOTE 1 The customer must provide input overcurrent protection as statedin NEC Section 240-21 or local codes. Size the protection device according tolocal code requirements.NOTE 2 To properly install, complete the phase check starting on page 67.NOTE 3 The customer must provide and install this ground connectionaccording to NEC Sections 250-20(d), 250-30, 250-62, and 250-64 or localrequirements. This grounding electrode conductor must be at least #8 AWG(8.36 mm 2), per NEC table 250-66. If the UPS input circuit conductors arelarger than #8 AWG (8.36 mm 2), Eaton requires the grounding electrodeconductor to be the same size (ampacity) as the largest UPS input circuitconductor. Refer to NEC Section 110-3(b). Conduit is not considered anacceptable grounding electrode conductor. Eaton does not recommendrouting the grounding electrode conductor through metallic conduit. Thisconductor may require protection from physical damage according to localrequirements.NOTE 4 All circuit conductors, including the neutral and equipmentgrounding conductors, must be the same size (ampacity) and have the samerating (75°C copper wire), and must be sized according to the inputprotection device.NOTE 5 The customer must provide output overcurrent protection perNEC Section 240-21 or local codes. Size the protection device according tolocal code requirements.NOTE 6 For maximum protection against electrical noise, use isolatedground receptacles. Refer to NEC Section 250-146(d) or local requirements.NOTE 7 For service, the UPS requires 36 (91.5 cm) clearance on the sidesand in front, 12 (30.5 cm) above the UPS, and 4 (10.0 cm) behind thebypass switch. A minimum clearance of 4 (10 cm) is required on the sides, front, and back and 12 (30.5 cm) above the UPS for proper ventilation. See“Equipment Clearances” on page 20 for clearances before installing theUPS. Use flexible metal conduit on the UPS or the external battery cabinetif either must be moved.NOTE 8 External UPS batteries are optional. The battery cables areconnected to the DC terminals on the DIN RAIL in the UPS. See “ExternalBattery Cabinet Installation” on page 55 for external battery cabinetinstallation.
