HAZARDOUS VOLTAGE. WILL CAUSESEVERE INJURY OR DEATH.Failure to disconnect control power during panelboardtesting will result in failure of electronic components andvoid manufacturer’s warranty.Pre-Energizing Panelboard Insulation TestingExercise extreme care to prevent the equipment frombeing connected to the power source while tests arebeing conducted.Prior to energizing the panelboard, perform a Megger or DCtest of the panelboard’s insulation with the neutral isolatedfrom the ground and the switches and/or circuit breakersopen, conduct electrical insulation resistance tests fromphase to phase, phase to ground, phase to neutral, andneutral to ground. Retain results for use to compare toresults produced in the future. Prior to testing, remove allcontrol power fusing and connections to products, whichwill be damaged in this test. See above.DO NOT USE AC Dielectric testing.Test resulting in readings at or above 1 mega-ohm (MΩ) issatisfactory.Post-TestingAfter testing, and with the panelboard de-energized,reconnect all devices, control fusing and disconnectsremoved prior to testing.Securing the PanelboardInstall the dead front cover and trim parts on the panelboardusing hardware supplied by the manufacturer. Take cautionthat conductors are not pinched between parts wheninstalling the dead-front cover and trim. All parts should bealigned and secured when installed.Do not leave holes or gaps in the dead-front construction.Clean up any debris in and around the panelboard.CAUTIONFAILURE TO DISCONNECT CONTROL POWER DURINGPANELBOARD TESTING WILL RESULT IN FAILURE OFELECTRONIC COMPONENTS.CAUTIONTO PREVENT DAMAGE TO GROUND FAULT CONTROLCIRCUITS, METERING CIRCUITS, OR OTHER CONTROLCIRCUITS WHEN MEGGERING PANELBOARD, ISOLATECIRCUITS FROMPANELBOARD SYSTEM BEFORE BEGINNING THE MEGGEROPERATION. BE SURE TO RECONNECT THOSE CIRCUITSAFTER MEGGER TESTS ARE COMPLETED. NOTEe:SOME GROUND FAULT CIRCUITS MAY NOT BE FUSED,THEREFORE ISOLATION OF THOSE CIRCUITS REQUIRESDISCONNECTING WIRING FROM BUS BARS.WARNINGDO NOT USE AC DIELECTRIC/MEGGER TESTINGEnergizing PanelboardExtreme hazards can exist when energizing electricaldistribution equipment and panelboards. Take all precautionsnecessary to protect people and property when energizingthe equipment. Short circuits and ground faults may existas a result from inadequate installation. Short circuits andground faults within the panelboard can cause catastrophicdamage, injury and death.1. Determine and always use proper PersonnelProtective Equipment (PPE) per NFPA 70E.2. Prior to energizing the panelboard, turn OFF allovercurrent devices and loads internal to thepanelboard plus mains in downstream equipment.3. Verify and follow the sequence of energizing circuitsand loads. Verify phase sequencing on loads, suchas motors, which can be damaged or destroyed byincorrect phase connections.4. If provided, use remote operators to close andenergize panelboard, overcurrent devices and loads.5. Beginning with the main(s), turn ON each overcurrentdevice.
