S801+ Operating Configuration26 S801+ Soft Starter MN03900002E—November 2012 www.eaton.comSetup and StartingBefore You BeginBe Aware of the Following:1. The Permissive terminal must have 24 Vdc applied toENABLE start or run commands from any source.2. To initiate a Stop remove the 24 Vdc Permissive terminalinput.3. For 2-wire local control, jumper Permissive and Startterminal inputs together.4. After an Overload Trip, the S801+ Soft Starter cannot berestarted until the prescribed cool-down time haselapsed. Review the START Inhibit times noted inAppendix B. Cycling 24 Vdc control power does notreset the timer. If control power is removed, the softstarter will retain the remaining time and will resume thecool-down timing when power is again reapplied.5. When the S801+ internal bypass contactor(s) close, asound similar to contactor chatter may be heard. Thissound is the result of multiple contactors in somemodels closing one after the other in a very short period. It is normal operation intended to reduce the surgecurrent requirements of your power supply. Duringnormal operation, the S801+ will cycle the internalbypass contactors at random intervals to clean thecontacts. During this operation, the contactors may beheard to release then pull in again as described above.SetupAfter all power and control connections have been made andyou have read and understood the different operating modesand protection features of the soft starter, set the Operationsand Protection potentiometers for your application. In manycases, only the Motor FLA potentiometer requiresadjustment to the proper value, and all other settings maybe used with the default values for the initial Start. Reviewthe Protection Options of the S801+ Appendix A andAppendix B adjust as required.
