Protection and Features• Electronic thermal motor protection against overload.• Temperature monitoring of the heatsink ensures that the adjustable frequency drive trips if the temperaturereaches a predefined level. An overload temperature cannot be reset until the temperature of the heatsink isbelow the values stated in the tables on the following pages (guideline - these temperatures may vary for differentpower sizes, unit sizes, enclosure ratings, etc.).• The adjustable frequency drive is protected against short-circuits on motor terminals U, V, W.• If a line phase is missing, the adjustable frequency drive trips or issues a warning (depending on the load).• Monitoring of the intermediate circuit voltage ensures that the adjustable frequency drive trips if the intermediatecircuit voltage is too low or too high.• The adjustable frequency drive is protected against ground faults on motor terminals U, V, W.12.3 Fuse Tables12.3.1 FusesIt is recommended to use fuses and/ or circuit breakers onthe supply side as protection in case of component break-down inside the adjustable frequency drive (first fault).NOTE!This is mandatory in order to ensure compliance with IEC60364 for CE or NEC 2009 for UL.WARNINGPersonnel and property must be protected against theconsequence of component breakdown internally in theadjustable frequency drive.Branch Circuit ProtectionIn order to protect the installation against electrical andfire hazard, all branch circuits in an installation, switchgear, machines etc., must be protected against short-circuitand overcurrent according to national/internationalregulations.NOTE!The recommendations given do not cover branch circuitprotection for UL.Short-circuit protectionGE recommends using the fuses/circuit breakersmentioned below to protect service personnel andproperty in case of component breakdown in theadjustable frequency drive.Overcurrent protection:The adjustable frequency drive provides overloadprotection to limit threats to human life, property damageand to avoid fire hazard due to overheating of the cablesin the installation. The adjustable frequency drive isequipped with an internal overcurrent protection(F-43 Current Limit) that can be used for upstream overloadprotection (UL applications excluded). Moreover, fuses orcircuit breakers can be used to provide the overcurrentprotection in the installation. Overcurrent protection mustalways be provided in accordance with nationalregulations.WARNINGIn case of malfunction, not following the recommendationmay result in personnel risk and damage to the drive andother equipment. The following tables list the recommended rated current.Recommended fuses are of the type gG for small tomedium power sizes. For larger powers, aR fuses arerecommended. Circuit breakers must be used providedthey meet the national/international regulations and theylimit the energy into the drive to an equal or lower levelthan the compliant circuit breakers. If fuses/circuit breakers are chosen according torecommendations, possible damage to the drive will belimited to damage mainly within the unit.12.3.2 RecommendationsWARNINGIn case of malfunction, not following the recommendationmay result in personnel risk and damage to the adjustablefrequency drive and other equipment. The following tables list the recommended rated current.Recommended fuses are of the type gG for small tomedium power sizes.
