1ReferenceBatteryInstallationInstalling the BatteriesThe eMap operates on two AA batteries, which areinstalled by removing the cover on the back of the unit.These batteries will provide more than 10 hours ofcontinuous use. Rechargeable NiCad or lithium batteriesmay be also used. Stored data will not be lost when thebatteries are removed.To install the batteries:1. Open the battery compartment on the back of theunit by pressing the two arrows on the cover. Slideit back and then lift up to remove.2. Install the batteries according to the polaritymarkings in the battery compartment.3. Press the cover onto the compartment then slideforward until it clicks back in place.Installing GARMIN Map Data CartridgesGARMIN map data cartridges allow your unit todisplay detailed mapping data. Data can be downloadedfrom a GARMIN MapSource ® CD-ROM ( a collection ofdata for a specific area, USA, World Map, etc.) using a PCand interface cable. MetroGuide® cartridges are alsoavailable for all major US cities. Refer to Appendix A forMapSource and MetroGuide ordering information.To install map data cartridges:1. Open the battery compartment cover on the back ofthe unit by pressing the arrows, sliding back, thenlifting up.2. Remove the batteries to expose the cartridge slot atthe back of the compartment.3. Insert the cartridge in the slot with the label facingyou. Be certain the connector end is inserted intothe slot and not the end with the extractor handle.Press the cartridge completely in place until thehandle is in place and is flush with the side of thecompartment.4. To remove the cartridge, use a fingernail to pull outthe extractor handle and then slide the cartridgefree of the slot.5.
