This happens nomatter if the battery pack is installed in the computer.Initializing the Battery PackYou need to initialize a new battery pack before using it for the first timeor when the actual operating time of a battery pack is much less thanexpected.Initializing is the process of fully charging, discharging, and thencharging. It can take several hours.1. Make sure that the computer power is turned off. Connect the ACadapter to fully charge the battery pack.2. After the battery pack is fully charged, turn on the computer. Pressthe Enter key or click the left touchpad button when the promptappears on the screen during system startup. The prompt shows up onthe screen for only a few seconds. You must press the Enter key orclick the left touchpad button quickly.3. A small window appears, select Launch System Setup to invoke theprogram.4. Disconnect the AC adapter and leave the computer on until thebattery is fully discharged. The computer will shut downautomatically.5. Connect the AC adapter to fully charge the battery pack.Checking the Battery LevelNOTE: Any battery level indication is an estimated result. The actual operating time canbe different from the estimated time, depending on how you are using the computer.You can check the approximate battery level using the battery meterfunction of the operating system. To read the battery level in WindowsVista, click the icon on the system tray. To read the battery level inWindows XP, click the icon on the taskbar. (Click the icon if thecomputer is using AC power.)
