This series of tests is called the Power-OnSelf-Test, or POST. POST does the following operations.• Checks some basic system-board operations• Checks the memory operation• Starts the video operation• Verifies that the diskette drive is working• Verifies that the hard disk drive is workingIf the POST finishes without detecting any problems, a single beep sounds and thefirst screen of the operating system or application program appears.If the POST detects a problem, an error message appears on the screen. A singleproblem can cause several error messages to appear. When you correct the cause ofthe first error message, the other error messages probably will not appear on thescreen the next time you turn on the system.In the following index, X can represent any number.Note:Type 2254, 2256, 2257, 6336, 6337, 6339, 6341, 6342, 6346, 6347, and 6348 computers default tocome up quiet (no beep and no memory count and checkpoint code display) when no errorsare detected by POST.To enable beep and memory count and checkpoint code display when a successful POSToccurs, do the following:1.
