See“Setup Utility program” on page 10 for information about running the Setup Utility.Power-on passwordA power-on password denies access to the computer by an unauthorized user whenthe computer is powered on. When a power-on password is active, the passwordprompt appears on the screen each time the computer is powered on. The computerstarts after the proper password is entered.Removing a power-on passwordTo service a computer with an active and unknown power-on password, power-offthe computer and use the following procedure.1. Unplug the power cord and remove the top cover.2. Refer to “Identifying parts on the system board” on page 59 to find the recoveryjumper.3. Move the recovery jumper from normal to clear.4. Power-on the computer. The system senses the change in the position and erasesthe password. It is necessary to move the jumper back to the previous position.5. Remind the user to enter a new password when service is complete.Note: On some models, this procedure will also remove the administrator password.
