When one of the two microprocessors reports an internal error, the IMM disablesthe defective microprocessor and restarts the server with the one goodmicroprocessor. The IMM also provides the following remote server management capabilitiesthrough the OSA SMBridge management utility program:v Command-line interface (IPMI Shell)The command-line interface provides direct access to server managementfunctions through the IPMI 2.0 protocol. Use the command-line interface to issuecommands to control the server power, view system information, and identify theserver. You can also save one or more commands as a text file and run the fileas a script.v Serial over LANEstablish a Serial over LAN (SOL) connection to manage servers from a remotelocation. You can remotely view and change the UEFI settings, restart the server, identify the server, and perform other management functions. Any standard Telnetclient application can access the SOL connection.Using the embedded hypervisorThe VMware ESXi embedded hypervisor software is available on the IBM USBflash device with embedded hypervisor. The USB flash device can be installed ineither of the I/O board internal USB ports (see the following illustration). Hypervisoris virtualization software that enables multiple operating systems to run on a hostsystem at the same time. The USB flash device is required to activate thehypervisor functions.PCIe2 x8slot 7 slot 6PCIe2 x8slot 5PCIe2 x8slot 4PCIe2 x8slot 1PCIe2 x16slot 3PCIe2 x8slot 2PCIe2 x8(x4 electrically)Ethernet 1Ethernet 2VideoSerialUSB6 - 7USB4 - 5InternalUSBInternalUSBSATADVDFrontUSB PCIeauxiliarypowerPowersupply 1Powersupply 2SystemmanagementEthernet96 IBM System x3850 X5 and x3950 X5 Types 7145 and 7146: Installation and User’s Guide
