Chapter 4. Using the Configuration/Setup UtilityprogramThe Configuration/Setup Utility program is stored in the electrically erasableprogrammable read-only memory (EEPROM) of your computer. You can usethe Configuration/Setup Utility program to view and change the configurationsettings of your computer, regardless of which operating system you are using.However, the settings you select in your operating system might override anysimilar settings in the Configuration/Setup Utility program.Starting and using the Configuration/Setup Utility programThe Configuration/Setup Utility program might start automatically whenPOST detects that newly installed or removed hardware is not reflected in yourcurrent configuration. A 162 POST message is displayed. See “Power-onself-test (POST)” on page 73.To start the Configuration/Setup Utility program:1. Press and hold down F1 and turn on the computer. If your computer isalready on when you start this procedure, you must shut down theoperating system, turn off the computer, wait a few seconds until all in-uselights go off, and restart the computer. (Do not use Ctrl+Alt+Del to restartthe computer.)2. If you have not set a password, the Configuration/Setup Utility programmenu appears on the screen. If you have set a password, theConfiguration/Setup Utility program menu will not appear until you typeyour password and press Enter.
