Notes:a. The iBMC is set initially with a user name of USERID and password ofPASSW0RD (with a zero, not the letter O). You have read/write access. Youmust change this default password the first time you log on.b. The default timeout value is 10 minutes. The iBMC will log you off the webinterface if your browser is inactive for 10 minutes.3. Click Login to start the session. The System Status page, provides a quick viewof the server status.Using the remote presence and blue-screen capture featuresThe remote presence and blue-screen capture features are integrated functions ofthe integrated baseboard management controller (iBMC).The remote presence feature provides the following functions:v Remotely viewing video with graphics resolutions up to 1600 x 1200 at 75 Hz,regardless of the system statev Remotely accessing the server, using the keyboard and mouse from a remoteclientv Mapping the CD or DVD drive, diskette drive, and USB flash drive on a remoteclient, and mapping ISO and diskette image files as virtual drives that areavailable for use by the serverv Uploading a diskette image to the iBMC memory and mapping it to the server asa virtual driveThe blue-screen capture feature captures the video display contents before theiBMC restarts the server when the iBMC detects an operating-system hangcondition. A system administrator can use the blue-screen capture feature to assistin determining the cause of the hang condition.Enabling the Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet Utility programThe Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet Utility program is part of the server firmware. Youcan use it to configure the network as a startable device, and you can customizewhere the network startup option appears in the startup sequence. Enable anddisable the Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet Utility program from the Setup utility.Configuring the Broadcom Gigabit Ethernet controllerThe Ethernet controllers are integrated on the system board. They provide aninterface for connecting to a 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps, or 1 Gbps network and providefull-duplex (FDX) capability, which enables simultaneous transmission and receptionof data on the network. If the Ethernet ports in the server support auto-negotiation,the controllers detect the data-transfer rate (10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, or1000BASE-T) and duplex mode (full-duplex or half-duplex) of the network andautomatically operate at that rate and mode. You do not have to set any jumpers or configure the controllers. However, you mustinstall a device driver to enable the operating system to address the controllers. Fordevice drivers and information about configuring the Ethernet controllers, completethe following steps:1. Go to http://www.ibm.com/systems/support/.2. Under Product support, click System x.Chapter 3. Configuring the server 85
