To install a PCI adapter, complete the following steps:1. Read the safety information that begins on page v and “Installation guidelines”on page 28.2. Turn off the server and peripheral devices, and disconnect the power cordsand all external cables.3. Remove the server cover (see “Removing the top cover” on page 37).4. Remove the PCI riser-card assembly (see “Removing the PCI riser-cardassembly” on page 38).5. See the documentation that comes with the adapter for instructions for settingjumpers or switches and for cabling.Note: Route adapter cables before you install the adapter.6. Determine which PCI expansion slot you will use for the adapter. If you areinstalling an adapter in expansion slot 1, 2, or 3, remove the expansion-slotcover.The following illustration shows the locations of the adapter expansion slotsfrom the rear of the server.DC!ACPCI slot 1PCI slot 2PCI slot 3Attention: When you install an adapter, avoid touching the components andgold-edge connectors on the adapter. Make sure that the adapter is correctlyseated in the connector. Incorrectly seated adapters might cause damage tothe PCI riser card or to the adapter.7. Touch the static-protective package that contains the adapter to any unpaintedsurface on the outside of the server; then, grasp the adapter by the top edgeor upper corners of the adapter and remove it from the package.8. Align the adapter with the connector on the PCI riser-card assembly.9. Press the adapter firmly into the adapter connector. If you install a full-lengthadapter in slot 1, make sure that the retention clip engages the adapter inplace.Attention: When you install an adapter, avoid touching the components andgold-edge connectors on the adapter. Make sure that the adapter is correctlyseated in the connector.
