Chapter 3. Configuring the serverThe following configuration programs come with the server:v Setup utilityThe Setup utility (formerly called the Configuration/Setup Utility program) is partof the IBM System x Server Firmware (server firmware). Use it to performconfiguration tasks such as changing the startup-device sequence, setting thedate and time, and setting passwords. For information about using this program, see “Using the Setup utility” on page 76.v Boot Selection Menu programThe Boot Selection Menu program is part of the server firmware. Use it tooverride the startup sequence that is set in the Setup utility and temporarilyassign a device to be first in the startup sequence. For more information aboutusing this program, see “Using the Boot Selection Menu program” on page 80.v IBM ServerGuide Setup and Installation CDThe ServerGuide program provides software-setup tools and installation toolsthat are designed for the server. Use this CD during the installation of the serverto configure basic hardware features, such as an integrated SAS controller withRAID capabilities, and to simplify the installation of your operating system. Forinformation about obtaining and using this CD, see “Using the ServerGuide Setupand Installation CD” on page 81.v Integrated baseboard management controllerUse the integrated baseboard management controller (iBMC) for configuration, toupdate the firmware and sensor data record/field replaceable unit (SDR/FRU)data, and to remotely manage a network. For information about using the iBMC,see “Using the integrated baseboard management controller” on page 83 or theProblem Determination and Service Guide on the IBM Documentation CD.v VMware embedded USB hypervisorThe VMware embedded USB hypervisor is available on the server models thatcome with an installed USB Memory Key for VMware hypervisor. The USBmemory key is installed in the USB connector in the server. Hypervisor isvirtualization software that enables multiple operating systems to run on a hostcomputer at the same time.v Remote presence and blue-screen capture featuresThe remote presence feature provides the following functions:– Remotely viewing video with graphics resolutions up to 1280 x 1024 at 75 Hz,regardless of the system state– Remotely accessing the server, using the keyboard and mouse from a remoteclient– Mapping the CD or DVD drive, diskette drive, and USB flash drive on aremote client, and mapping ISO and diskette image files as virtual drives thatare available for use by the server– Uploading a diskette image to the iBMC memory and mapping it to the serveras a virtual driveThe blue-screen capture feature captures the video display contents before theiBMC restarts the server when the iBMC detects an operating-system hangcondition. A system administrator can use the blue-screen capture feature toassist in determining the cause of the hang condition. For more information, see “Using the remote presence and blue-screen capturefeatures” on page 85.© Copyright IBM Corp. 2012 75
