Using the Recovery and Supplementary CDsThis chapter describes the applications included on the xSeries 150 Supplementaryand Recovery CDs, and how and when you should use them.Note: The IBM xSeries 150 is a preloaded appliance server. Changing the preloadedsoftware configuration in any way, including applying or installingunauthorized service packs or updates to preinstalled software, or installingadditional software products that are not included in either the preloadedimage or on the Supplementary CD is not supported and could causeunpredictable results. To correct problems with a preloaded softwarecomponent, you must backup your user and system data; then, use theRecovery CD to restore the preloaded software image. You can obtain IBMauthorized updates for this preloaded appliance from the following site:http://www.ibm.com/eserver/xseriesUsing the Recovery Enablement Diskette and Recovery CDThe Recovery CD is a startable CD that contains the preload image for your xSeries150 and is used to recover the preloaded image on your server. You must start yourserver using the Recovery Enablement Diskette before you will be able to use theRecovery CD.To recover the preloaded image on your server:1. Insert the diskette into the diskette drive and restart the server.When the Recovery Enablement Diskette has completed loading andreconfiguring your server startup sequence the server will begin beeping. Do notcontinue with this procedure until the server begins beeping.2. Remove the Recovery Enablement Diskette from the diskette drive.3. Place the Recovery CD in the CD-ROM drive and restart the server.The recovery process will begin automatically and the original manufacturingpreload will be restored. After the preload image is restored the system restartsautomatically and all final operating system configuration changes are performed.The Recovery Enablement Diskette enables the xSeries 150 to start from the CD-ROM drive. You will not be able to restore the preload image from the RecoveryCD without first restarting the server using the Recovery Enablement Diskette.Important
