516 CONNECTION AND INSTALLATION■ Ground connectionThe transceiver and antenna tuner MUST have anadequate RF ground connection. Otherwise, theoverall efficiency of the transceiver and antennatuner installation will be reduced. Electrolysis, electri-cal shocks and interference from other equipmentcould also occur. For best results, use 50 or 75 mm (2 or 3 inches)wide copper strap and make the connection as shortas possible. Ground the transceiver and antennatuner to one ground point, otherwise the voltage dif-ference (at the RF level) between 2 ground pointsmay cause electrolysis.RWARNING! When grounding to a metal hullUse Zinc anodes to protect the hull from electroly-sis.Ask your technical dealer, installer or refer to atechnical book, and so on, for RF grounding de-tails.Ground system exampleBest ground points• External ground plate• Copper screen• Copper foilUnusable ground points( These connections may cause an explosion or electricalshock)• Gas or electrical pipe• Fuel tank or oil-catch panCopper pipe Metal object Copper screen■ Power sourceThe transceiver requires a regulated DC power of13.8 V and at least 28 A. There are two ways to sup-ply power:• Direct connection to a 12 V battery in your vehiclethrough the supplied DC power cable.• Use a DC power supply connected to an AC outlet.DC power cable connectionNOTE: Use terminals for the cable connection.12 VbatterySuppliedDC power cable+ red_ black CrimpSolder
