19Replacing the V-BeltDisconnect machine frompower source before making any adjustments.Referring to Figures 29 and 30:1. Release blade tension as described in theBlade Tension section.2. Release belt tension by loosening the handle(A) and lifting up on the lever (B). Re-tightenthe handle.3. Open the lower wheel door (D) and remove thehex nut and washer (E).4. Remove the wheel (F). If the lower wheel doesnot come off easily you may need to use apulley puller to remove it.Note: If you are doing a pulley alignment only, skipStep 5.5. Remove the old belt (G) and install the newbelt.6. Since the wheel is still off, this is the mostconvenient time to check the wheel and motorpulley alignment. Jump to the Pulley Alignmentprocedure (following page) at this time. At theconclusion you will be re-directed back here.7. Re-install the lower wheel, hex nut and washerand tighten the hex nut.8. Lower motor/gearbox (B) and tighten thehandle (A).Important: Before operating the band saw, refer tothe sections listed below and perform the requiredadjustments described in them.! Installing/Changing Blades (page 14)! Belt Tension (below)! Blade Tension (page 15)! Blade Tracking (page 15)! Upper Bearing Adjustments (page 16)! Lower Bearing Adjustments (page 17)Belt TensionThe drive belt and pulleys are properly adjusted atthe factory. However, belt tension should beoccasionally checked. The belt will need to be re-tensioned after belt replacement.Disconnect machine frompower source before making any adjustments.1. Release belt tension by loosening the handle(A, Figure 29).Figure 29Figure 302. Set the belt tension by lightly pressing down onthe lever (B, Figure 29). The weight of themotor/gearbox should put enough tension onthe belt. You just want to push down lightly totake up any slack.3. Tighten the handle (A).Note: A new belt may stretch slightly during the“breaking in” process, and the tension mayoccasionally need to be checked and adjusted.
