7 Autopatch Operations(U.S.A. versions only)Some repeaters offer a service called autopatch.This feature allows you to dial a telephone numberfrom your transceiver and carry on a telephoneconversation.This function requires the use of a DTMF (Dual ToneMulti Frequency) keypad. The transceiver alsoprovides four additional keys - A, B, C, and D - inaddition to the normal 12 keys found on yourtelephone.These keys are required for various controloperations by some repeater systems. A chart listingthe various tone frequencies generated by thekeypad is provided below.To activate the keypad:Press and hold the PTT switchDial the number just as you would on a normaltelephone by pressing the appropriate keys.32NoteSome repeaters require a special key sequence toactivate the autopatch function. Check with thecontrol operator for this sequence.You will hear and transmit a single tone if you pressthe VFO key before pressing one of the numerickeys (see the chart at right).Selecting Delay Time(Direct keyboard entry only)It’s easier to enter a long string of numbers if youdon’t have to hold down the PTT switch while youenter them. To instruct the transceiver to remainkeyed for 2 seconds after pressing each number:1 Turn the power off.2 Press and hold the 2 key and turn on the power.3 Release the 2 key.You are now able to enter numbers without pressingand holding the PTT switch.Repeat 1 and 3 to cancel the delay time.
