59APPENDIX AT ROUBLESHOOTINGNetwork Printing ProblemsUse the checklists in this section to identify the cause ofnetwork printing problems. If a problem persists, contactNEC Printer Technical Support at NecTech’s web site(www.nectech.com) or phone 1-800-632-4650.Check the Printer OperationVerify that the printer is plugged in, turned on, and online—the green Online light on the Operator Panel should be lit, ornothing will print.Check the Network Settings PageOn power-up, the network printer produces a NetworkSettings page which has useful information fortroubleshooting. Check the Network Settings page to seewhich protocols are enabled and active. Confirm that thenetwork protocol you configured appears on the page. If not,it should be reconfigured correctly for the network printer.Check other Network UsersDetermine if other network users can print. If they cannotand they are all on the same network operating system, theproblem is most likely in the network configuration.Review Recent System ChangesVerify that any hardware changes (installations, modifications, removals), to the printer or network, weredone correctly. If you added a new software application, make sure the program is compatible and installed correctlyon the network.Check Hardware Connections• Be sure that your cable is a Category 5 twisted pair cablewith RJ-45 connectors for 10/100Base-TX ethernet.• Check that the network connector is plugged into the RJ-45 connector on the NIC.• Try another cable to make sure you do not have a badcable.• If you are using a 10/100Base-TX concentrator hub thatdoes not support the link signal, use Manual EthernetPort selection instead of the factory default, AutomaticEthernet Port selection.Check NIC Status LightsCheck the NIC’s status lights to ensure that there is no errorcondition. The two status lights, amber and green, are locatedon the interface panel on the back of the printer. The greenlight should be lit and steady. Light patterns that indicateserious hardware problems or software errors are shownbelow. If you see one of these patterns, you should contactNEC Printer Technical Support.Green light blinks rapidly: This occurs when theprinter performs a self-test and detects bad SIMM.Green light blinks rapidly 4 times, pauses: Thisoccurs when the printer performs a self-test and detects aproblem in the Ethernet hardware.Amber light blinks short for 10 seconds, then goesout, and the green light blinks continuously: Thisoccurs when the printer performs a flash memory self-test and the checksum fails.Green light blinks slowly: When this happens afterpower-on completes, it indicates an interface error.Green light blinks rapidly: When this happens whilethe printer awaits print jobs, it indicates that the NetWareconnection has been lost.Green and amber lights blink alternately: This wouldoccur when you turn on the printer after restoringfactory defaults, and indicates an error.
