Introducing Your Computer 1-11External ConnectorsExternal connectors let you attach peripheral devices, suchas a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and printer to your system.Your system has the following external connectors:n VGA monitor connectorAttach the signal cable from your monitor to thisconnector. Supports an NEC MultiSync ® monitor orother video graphics array (VGA)-compatible monitorwith a 15-pin connector.n Audio connectorsThese connectors come integrated on multimedia models.The connectors include microphone in, line in, and lineout jacks. The microphone in jack lets you connect amicrophone for recording audio information in yourdata system files. The line in jack lets you connect a stereo audiodevice such as a stereo amplifier or a cassette orminidisc player for playback or recording. The line out jack allows you to connect an amplifiedoutput device such as powered speakers, stereo taperecorder, or an external amplifier for audio output.Use this jack to connect the stereo speakers thatcome with your system.n Printer PortUse this port to connect a parallel printer with a 25-pinconnector to the system.n Serial PortsAttach a serial device with a 9-pin connector to eachserial port. Serial devices include a pointing device,serial printer, or modem. |
