Setting System Parameters 2-9IDE AdaptersIDE adapters control the IDE devices, such as IDE harddisk drives and IDE CD-ROM readers, in your system.Your system uses two IDE controllers integrated on thesystem board.Setup supports up to four IDE devices, with an IDE adapterfor each of the following configurations:1 Master1 Master, 1 Slave2 Masters2 Masters, 1 Slave2 Masters, 2 SlavesThe master/slave combination for standard hard diskconfigurations is “1 Master.” If you add a hard disk to thefast IDE port (IDE1 connector), the combination becomes“1 Master, 1 Slave.”The master/slave combination for configurations with anIDE hard disk and a CD-ROM reader is “2 Masters.” Ifyou add a hard disk to the fast IDE port (IDE1 connector),the combination becomes “2 Masters, 1 Slave.”Jumper settings on the IDE device set the device to masteror slave (see the documentation that comes with the device).Select the IDE Adapter option configuration directly fromthe Main Menu summary window.
