E36Reference SectionThe Shooting Menu (for A (Auto) Mode)• See “Changing the Image Size (Image Mode)” (A69) for information aboutImage mode.White Balance (Adjusting Hue)The color of light reflected from an object varies with the color of the light source. The human brain is able to adapt to changes in the color of the light source, withthe result that white objects appear white whether seen in the shade, directsunlight, or under incandescent lighting. Digital cameras can mimic thisadjustment by processing images according to the color of the light source. This isknown as “white balance.” For natural colors, select a white balance setting thatmatches the light source before shooting.Although Auto (default setting) can be used under most types of lighting, whitebalance can be adjusted to suit the sky conditions or light source and achievemore natural color tones in the image. The current white balance setting is indicated by an icon when shooting (A6).No icon is displayed when Auto is selected.B Notes About White Balance• Some settings cannot be used with other functions (A71).• Set the flash to W (off) when white balance is set to any setting other than Auto and Flash(A62).Select A (auto) mode M d button M White balanceOption Descriptiona Auto(default setting)White balance is automatically adjusted to suit lightingconditions.
