Only a packet data internet access point can be used. Yourdevice asks you to select the internet access point whenGPS is used for the first time.Hold your devicecorrectlyWhen using the GPS receiver, ensure you do not cover theantenna with your hand.Establishing a GPS connection may take from acouple of seconds to several minutes.Establishing a GPS connection in a vehicle maytake longer. The GPS receiver draws its power from thedevice battery. Using the GPS receiver maydrain the battery faster.Tips on creating a GPSconnectionIf your device cannot find the satellite signal, consider thefollowing:• If you are indoors, go outdoors to receive a bettersignal.• If you are outdoors, move to a more open space.• Ensure that your hand does not cover the GPS antennaof your device.• If the weather conditions are bad, the signal strengthmay be affected.• Some vehicles have tinted (athermic) windows, whichmay block the satellite signals.Check satellite signal statusTo check how many satellites your device has found, andwhether your device is receiving satellite signals, selectMenu > Applications > GPS > GPS data and Options >Satellite status. If your device has foundsatellites, a bar for each satelliteis displayed in the satelliteinformation view. The longerthe bar, the stronger thesatellite signal is. When yourdevice has received enoughdata from the satellite signal tocalculate the coordinates of your location, the bar colourchanges.Initially, your device must receive signals from at least foursatellites to be able to calculate the coordinates of yourlocation. When the initial calculation has been made, itmay be possible to continue calculating the coordinates ofyour location with three satellites. However, the accuracyis generally better when more satellites are found.Position requestsYou may receive a request from a network service toreceive your position information. Service providers mayoffer information about local topics, such as weather ortraffic conditions, based on the location of your device.74 Positioning (GPS)
