ConnectivityYour device offers several options to connect to theinternet or to another compatible device or PC.Data connections and access pointsYour device supports packet data connections (networkservice), such as GPRS in the GSM network. When you useyour device in GSM and UMTS networks, multiple dataconnections can be active at the same time, and accesspoints can share a data connection. In the UMTS network,data connections remain active during voice calls.You can also use a WLAN data connection. Only oneconnection in one wireless LAN can be active at a time, butseveral applications can use the same internet accesspoint.To establish a data connection, an access point is required.You can define different kinds of access points, such as thefollowing:● MMS access point to send and receive multimediamessages● Internet access point (IAP) to send and receive e-mailand connect to the internetCheck the type of access point you need with your serviceprovider for the service you want to access. For availabilityand subscription to packet data connection services,contact your service provider.Network settingsSelect Menu > Settings and Connectivity > Network.Your device can automatically switch between GSM andUMTS networks. GSM networks are indicated with . UMTSnetworks are indicated with .Select from the following:● Network mode — Select which network to use. If youselect Dual mode, the device uses the GSM or UMTSnetwork automatically, according to the networkparameters and the roaming agreements between thewireless service providers. For details and roamingcosts, contact your network service provider. Thisoption is shown only if supported by the wirelessservice provider.A roaming agreement is an agreement between twoor more service providers to enable the users of oneservice provider to use the services of other serviceproviders.● Operator selection — Select Automatic to set thedevice to search for and select one of the availablenetworks, or Manual to manually select the networkfrom a list. If the connection to the manually selectednetwork is lost, the device sounds an error tone andasks you to reselect a network.
