To obtain information about WLAN or subscribing to apacket data service and the appropriate connection andconfiguration settings, contact your service provider.The settings available for editing may vary.Access pointsSelect > Tools > Settings > Connection > Accesspoints.An access point is where your device connects to thenetwork by way of a data connection. To use e-mail andmultimedia services or to browse web pages, you mustfirst define access points for these services.Some or all access points may be preset for your deviceby your service provider, and you may not be able tocreate, edit, or remove them.To create a new access point, select Options > Newaccess point. Select Use default settings to enter thenecessary changes to the default access point settings,or select Use existing settings to use an existing accesspoint as the basis for the new access point.Packet data settingsSelect > Tools > Settings > Connection > Packetdata.Your device supports packet data connections, such asGPRS in the GSM network. When you are using yourdevice in GSM and UMTS networks, it is possible to havemultiple data connections active at the same time;access points can share a data connection, and dataconnections remain active, for example, during voicecalls. See "Connection manager " on page 56.To define the packet data settings, select Packet dataconnection and select When available to register thedevice to the packet data network when you switch thedevice on in a supported network, or When needed toestablish a packet data connection only when anapplication or action requires it. Select Access point andenter the access point name provided by your serviceprovider to use the device as a packet data modem toyour computer.These settings affect all access points for packet dataconnections.WLAN settingsSelect > Tools > Settings > Connection > WirelessLAN.To have an indicator displayed when there is a WLANavailable in your current location, select Show WLANavailability > Yes.To select the interval for your device to scan foravailable WLANs and update the indicator, select Scanfor networks. This setting is not visible unless you selectShow WLAN availability > Yes.To check the unique media access control (MAC) addressthat identifies your device, enter *#62209526# in thestandby mode.
