Using the BayStack 650 Wireless LAN Access Point2-8 203282-BInstalling the BayStack 650 Access PointPlace the BayStack 650 Access Point in the center of the first BSA shown on thefloor plan in a location for permanent installation. Nortel Network recommendspositioning the access point in an elevated location to achieve better, line-of-siteradio coverage between the mobile unit and the access point. Place the accesspoint on top of a six foot ladder to approximate recommended wall or ceilingmounting.To install your BayStack 650 Access Point, plug the power supply cord into theaccess point and then into a wall outlet. (Go to Chapter 3, “Installing the AccessPoint” for additional information). When power is applied, refer to Table 2-1 forthe LED activity. Go to Chapter 7, “Diagnostics and Troubleshooting” if you haveproblems installing the access point.The green LED on the PC card inserted in your access point lights when there is agood connection between a mobile unit and the access point. The amber LEDblinks when there is transmit or receive activity on the wireless segment of thenetwork.Note: You do not need to connect the access point to a wireless LAN to perform asurvey. However, to communicate between a mobile unit and an access point,network drivers must be loaded. Both the PC card and the access point should beset at the same SSID (default: SSID). Refer to Using the BayStack 650/660 WirelessLAN PC Card for instructions on how to load your network driver.Table 2-1.
