Page 144 Advanced HotSync® OperationsPreparing your computer for infraredcommunicationBefore you can perform a HotSync operation using the IR port, thecomputer with which you want to synchronize must fulfill theserequirements:n Your computer must support the IrCOMM implementation of theIrDA standards.n Your computer must have an enabled infrared port that’s built intothe computer, or an enabled infrared device attached to thecomputer.Some desktop computers may require an infrared device attachedto a physical COM port. Laptops are likely to have a built-in IRport, so no external device is necessary.n Your computer must have an installed infrared driver.If you have an external infrared device attached to your computer,a driver is probably included with the device. Consult thedocumentation included with the device for information oninstalling the required driver.Check your computer’s documentation to learn if the computersupports infrared communication.Configuring HotSync Managerfor infrared communicationNext, you need to configure HotSync Manager for infraredcommunication.To configure HotSync Manager for infrared communicationon a Windows computer:1. Click the HotSync Manager icon in the Windows system tray,and make sure Infrared is checked. If you do not have an Infraredoption on the HotSync Manager menu, complete the followingsteps.2. Make sure Local Serial is checked on the menu.3. Choose Setup.4. Click the Local tab.
