Apart from stereo (2-channel) audio, these signals can alsobe multi-channel audio. A large amount of audio information can berecorded on one disc using this method. This unit is set to record using Dolby Digital in all recording modesexcept for XP mode, where you may choose Dolby Digital or LPCM.Dolby Pro LogicA surround system where a 4-channel audio track is recorded as 2channels and then is restored to 4 channels for play. The surroundchannel is monaural and can reproduce up to 7 kHz.DTS (Digital Theater Systems)This surround system is used in many movie theaters around theworld. There is good separation between the channels, so realisticsound effects are possible.Dynamic rangeDynamic range is the difference between the lowest level of soundthat can be heard above the noise of the equipment and the highestlevel of sound before distortion occurs.Film and videoDVD-Videos are recorded using either film or video. Usually, film isrecorded at 24 frames per second, the rate movies are filmed at,while video is recorded at 30 frames per second.Frame still and field stillFrames are the still pictures that go together to make a moving pic-ture. There are about 30 frames shown each second. One frame is made up of two fields. A regular television shows thesefields one after the other to create frames.A still is shown when you pause a moving picture. A frame still ismade up of two alternating fields, so the picture may appear blurred, but overall quality is high.A field still is not blurred, but it has only half the information of aframe still so picture quality is lower.Interlace and progressive outputNTSC, the video signal standard, has 480 interlaced (i) scan lines, whereas progressive scanning uses twice the number of scan lines. This is called 480p. The video signals output from this unit’s COM-PONENT VIDEO OUT terminals (Y, P B, P R ) allow you to enjoy higherquality pictures than if the signals were output from the VIDEO OUTterminal or S VIDEO OUT terminal.I/P/BMPEG 2, the video compression standard adopted for use withDVD-Video, codes frames using these 3 picture types.I: Intra coded pictureThis picture has the best quality and is the best to use whenadjusting the picture.P: Predictive coded pictureThis picture is calculated based on past I- or P-pictures.B: Bidirectionally-predictive coded pictureThis picture is calculated by comparing past and future I- andP-pictures so it has the lowest volume of information.Linear PCM (pulse code modulation)These are uncompressed digital signals. LPCM sound is availablewhen recording in XP mode.Playback control (PBC)If a Video CD has playback control, you can select scenes and infor-mation with menus.Pan&Scan/LetterboxIn general, DVD-Video are produced with the intention that they beviewed on a widescreen television with an aspect ratio of 16:9. Thismeans you can view most material with the intended aspect ratio ona widescreen television.Material with this ratio will not fit onto a standard television with anaspect ratio of 4:3. Two styles of picture, “Pan&Scan” and “Letter-box”, deal with this problem.Pan&Scan: The sides are cut off so the pic-ture fills the screen.Letterbox: Black bands appear at the topand bottom of the picture so thepicture itself appears in anaspect ratio of 16:9.Language code list Input the code with numbered buttons.Abkhazian: 6566Afar: 6565Afrikaans: 6570Albanian: 8381Ameharic: 6577Arabic: 6582Armenian: 7289Assamese: 6583Aymara: 6588Azerbaijani: 6590Bashkir: 6665Basque: 6985Bengali; Bangla:6678Bhutani: 6890Bihari: 6672Breton: 6682Bulgarian: 6671Burmese: 7789Byelorussian: 6669Cambodian: 7577Catalan: 6765Chinese: 9072Corsican: 6779Croatian: 7282Czech: 6783Danish: 6865Dutch: 7876English: 6978Esperanto: 6979Estonian: 6984Faroese: 7079Fiji: 7074Finnish: 7073French: 7082Frisian: 7089Galician: 7176Georgian: 7565German: 6869Greek: 6976Greenlandic: 7576Guarani: 7178Gujarati: 7185Hausa: 7265Hebrew: 7387Hindi: 7273Hungarian: 7285Icelandic: 7383Indonesian: 7378Interlingua: 7365Irish: 7165Italian: 7384Japanese: 7465Javanese: 7487Kannada: 7578Kashmiri: 7583Kazakh: 7575Kirghiz: 7589Korean: 7579Kurdish: 7585Laotian: 7679Latin: 7665Latvian, Lettish:7686Lingala: 7678Lithuanian: 7684Macedonian: 7775Malagasy: 7771Malay: 7783Malayalam: 7776Maltese: 7784Maori: 7773Marathi: 7782Moldavian: 7779Mongolian: 7778Nauru: 7865Nepali: 7869Norwegian: 7879Oriya: 7982Pashto, Pushto:8083Persian: 7065Polish: 8076Portuguese: 8084Punjabi: 8065Quechua: 8185Rhaeto-Romance:8277Romanian: 8279Russian: 8285Samoan: 8377Sanskrit: 8365Scots Gaelic: 7168Serbian: 8382Serbo-Croatian:8372Shona: 8378Sindhi: 8368Singhalese: 8373Slovak: 8375Slovenian: 8376Somali: 8379Spanish: 6983Sundanese: 8385Swahili: 8387Swedish: 8386Tagalog: 8476Tajik: 8471Tamil: 8465Tatar: 8484Telugu: 8469Thai: 8472Tibetan: 6679Tigrinya: 8473Tonga: 8479Turkish: 8482Turkmen: 8475Twi: 8487Ukrainian: 8575Urdu: 8582Uzbek: 8590Vietnamese: 8673Volapük: 8679Welsh: 6789Wolof: 8779Xhosa: 8872Yiddish: 7473Yoruba: 8979Zulu: 9085 |
