GlossaryInstallation Manual 171TerminalAn H.323 endpoint which provides for real-time, two-way communications which anotherTerminal, Gateway, or MCU. A terminal must provide audio and may also provide videoand/or data.Terminal modeTerminal mode is one of the operational modes of the Maintenance Console Software. Theterminal mode includes functions like LAN maintenance, emergency maintenance, andFTP client startup.Traffic measurementOne of the functions supported by the KX-TDA0480. The KX-TDA0480 has trafficcounters in internal memory. These counters measure the number of originated calls and thenumber of terminated calls. Traffic information can be output to the maintenance console.TrapOne of the signals included in the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). A trapis sent to the Network Management System (NMS) in the event of an equipment fault fordiagnostic purposes.TRSOKI proprietary feature that allows Gatekeeper units to be configured by a systemadministrator for routing groups among the stacked/cascaded KX-TDA0480.UDPUser Datagram Protocol. An unreliable networking layer that sits at the same level of thenetworking stack at TCP.Unreliable TransmissionConnection-less transmission which provides best-effort delivery of data packets. Messagestransmitted by the sender bay be lost, duplicated, or received out of sequence.Voice compressionA high-quality voice compression function is incorporated in the KX-TDA0480 to achievevoice communication through the IP network. At the calling side, voice is compressed to 8Kbps digital signal and then packaged (IP packetisation) and delivered to a router fortransport across the network. On the receiving side, the KX-TDA0480 reassembles the IPpackets and restores them to the digital signal. The original voice is regenerated byexpanding (decompressing) the restored digital signal.
