59TroubleshootingUseful InformationYou cannot listen to recordedmessages.• Make sure the unit is not being used.“ ” is displayed and theANSWER ON indicatorflashes rapidly. No newmessages are recorded.• Memory is full. Erase unnecessarymessages (p. 49).You cannot operate theAnswering System with thebase unit.• The handset user is operating the AnsweringSystem, or is on the phone. Wait until the INUSE/CHARGE indicator light goes out.You cannot operate theAnswering System from atouch tone phone.• Make sure you enter the correct remote code(p. 51).• The Answering System may not respond ifthe tones are too short to activate the unit.Press each button firmly.• The Answering System is off. Turn it on(p. 53).You cannot operate theAnswering System with thehandset.• Someone is operating the AnsweringSystem.• You are too far from the base unit. Walkcloser to the base unit.• The unit is recording a message. To answerthe call, press [ ] or [ ].While recording a greetingmessage, the unit starts toring and stops recording.• To answer the call, press [SP-PHONE], [ ]or [ ].
