2.4.1 Pre-provisioning2.4.1.1 What is Pre-provisioning?Pre-provisioning can aid the installation process by allowing phone system dealers to configure beforehandthe minimum settings required to operate the unit. For example, phone system dealers can store on the TFTP server a configuration file that contains only theURL of a server where another configuration file is stored. This second configuration file contains settingsconfigured specifically for the usage environment of the user. The user will be able to start using the unit byjust connecting it to the network. To perform pre-provisioning, you must set the IP address of a TFTP server to the DHCP server option 66 sothat the unit can acquire the TFTP server address. When the unit starts up and no configuration has beenapplied, it will automatically acquire the address of the TFTP server and download the configuration file.To restore settings configured by pre-provisioning, return the unit to its factory default state by performing areset. You can reperform pre-provisioning after resetting the unit. For details about resetting the unit, see Section 8 Resetting the Unit.2.4.1.2 Server for Pre-provisioningTo perform pre-provisioning, the unit needs to acquire the TFTP server address from option 66 on a DHCPserver. Therefore, pre-provisioning cannot be performed if you use static IP addressing on your network. If youuse static IP addressing and want to perform pre-provisioning, construct a small, separate network and connecta DHCP and TFTP server to that network. The DHCP server and TFTP server play important roles in performing pre-provisioning. This section explainstheir purposes, uses, and brief descriptions.Server Purpose DescriptionDHCP server Used to provide the addressof a TFTP server, set in option66 of the DHCP server. In option 66 of the DHCP server, specify the IPaddress or FQDN (Fully Qualified Domain Name) ofthe TFTP server. For details, refer to the documentation for yourDHCP server.Note• The maximum length of FQDN text is 64bytes.TFTP server Used to store configurationfiles, and is set as the accesspoint for downloading themautomatically. The unit will download the configuration file"KX-UT670.cfg" stored in the root directory of theTFTP server.DHCP and TFTP servers may be supplied with your operating system, provided through commercial services, and are also distributed freely on the Internet. Use a server setup that best matches your environment. When installing and setting up the DHCP server and TFTP server, refer to the documentation supplied withthe product.2.4.1.3 Pre-provisioning Setting ExampleThis section gives an example of how to perform pre-provisioning.Document Version 2011-11 Administrator Guide 23Section 2 General Information on Programming
