Unlike cassettes, it is not necessary tofind an empty portion to record onto. Allrecordings start from the first availablespace. The MD fills up and when the disc isfull, either because the time limit has beenreached or 254 tracks have been recorded,recording is no longer possible. You can usethe editing functions to erase and move yourrecordings around within the MD.∫ Limitations on digital record-ingThe serial copy management system(SCMS) prevents unlimited recording of digi-tal material.Digital recordings are of high quality, but toprotect the rights of the producer of the origi-nal material, it is only possible to make onedigital recording of a digital recording. Thisalso applies if you record analogue materialdigitally.
