Operation3-93150-A2-GB21-80 February 1998Changing ConfigurationOptionsThe CSU is an intelligent device that displays onlyvalid options for the current configuration. Therefore, youare only presented with menu choices that are consistentwith the current configuration and operational state of theCSU; invalid combinations of configuration options donot appear. Be aware that although all options are shownin this guide, what you see on your CSU varies with yourconfiguration.The CSU offers configuration options located in thefollowing memory areas:• Active (Activ). This is the configuration option setcurrently active for the CSU. Before aconfiguration option set becomes active for theCSU, you must save the set to the Active area.When the CSU is shipped from the factory, theActive configuration option set is identical to theFactory set. This area can be written to and controlsthe current operation of the device.• Customer 1 (Cust1). This is the first of two sets ofcustomer-defined configuration options. This areacan be written to.• Customer 2 (Cust2). This is the second of two setsof customer-defined configuration options. Thisarea can be written to.• Factory 1 (Fact1). This is a set of configurationoptions preset at the factory. This set is determinedby what is considered to be the most commonconfiguration used in the CSU market. Factory 1options are read-only.• Factory 2 (Fact2). This is a set of configurationoptions preset at the factory. This set is determinedby what is considered to be the second mostcommon configuration used in the CSU market.Factory 2 options are read-only.The configuration options are divided into functionalgroups. Appendix C contains a list of the configurationoptions and defaults. These groups are:• DTE Interface• Network Interface• User Interface• Alarm• General Management• Management TrapThe CSU arrives with two preset factory defaultconfiguration settings. These settings are based on thefollowing:• Factory 1 – ESF framing format with B8ZS linecoding format for both the network and the DTE T1interfaces.• Factory 2 – D4 framing format with AMI linecoding format for both the network and the DTE T1interfaces.If neither of the factory default settings support yournetwork’s configuration, you can customize theconfiguration options to better suit your application.Use the Configuration (Cnfig) branch of the front panelmenu tree to display or change CSU configuration options(see Appendix C, Configuration Options).
