15BASIC OPERATIONTURNING THE RECEIVERON AND OFFPress POWER to turn on the receiver,then adjust VOLUME to a comfortablelistening level.The display shows the band, frequen-cy, time, and signal strength (with 10as the strongest signal).When you press POWER to turn off thereceiver, the battery power indicatorappears on the display for severalseconds.Fresh batteries show a power level of10. If the indicator shows a power lev-el of 3 or below or BATT LOW flashes,replace all of the batteries.Press POWER again to turn off the re-ceiver.LIGHTING THE DISPLAYPress to light the display in low-light situations.Notes:• If you use battery power, the lightautomatically turns off after 12seconds to save battery power.• If you use AC or DC power, thelight stays on while the receiver ison. You must turn off the receiverto turn off the light.LOCKING THECONTROLSThe lock feature prevents you from ac-cidentally turning the receiver on or off,changing the band or frequency, or us-ing the front panel buttons.
