9Note: Always use 50-ohm coaxial ca-ble to connect an outdoor antenna toyour scanner. For lengths under 50feet, use RG-58 or RG-8/M coaxial ca-ble. For lengths over 50 feet, use RG-8, low-loss coaxial cable. If the coaxialcable’s connector does not fit the ANTjack, you might also need an adapter.Your local RadioShack store sells acomplete line of outdoor antennas, adapters, BNC connectors, andmounting hardware. For the best performance, considerthe following when deciding on an out-door antenna and its location:• The location of the externalantenna should be as high as pos-sible.• The external antenna andantenna cable should be as faraway as possible from sources ofelectrical noise (appliances, otherradios, and so on).• The external antenna should bevertical.Mount the antenna following the in-structions supplied with the antennaand its mounting hardware, then routethe antenna cable to the scanner andconnect it to the ANT jack on the backof the scanner.RESETTING THESCANNERIf the scanner’s display locks up ordoes not work properly after you con-nect power or after a power surge, youmight need to reset the scanner.Caution: This procedure clears all theinformation you have programmedinto the scanner.
