9The ovensYou should read ‘the oven’ in the‘2 Minute Tour’ before all the followinginformationThe wire shelves should always be pushed firmlyto the back of the oven.Baking trays with food cooking on them shouldbe placed level with the front edge of the oven’swire shelves. Other containers should be placedcentrally. Keep all trays and containers awayfrom the back of the oven, as overbrowning ofthe food may occur. For even browning, the maximum recommendedsize of a baking tray is 320mm (12 l /2 ") by305mm (12").When the oven is on, don’t leave the door openfor longer than necessary, otherwise the knobsmay get very hot. Both ovens are protected by a safety cut off, which reduces the supply of gas to the oven ifthe flames go out, e.g. an interruption to themains supply.• Always leave a ‘fingers width’ between disheson the same shelf This allows the heat tocirculate freely around them.• Plates can be warmed in the ovens on the ‘S’setting. The ‘S’ setting can be used to keepfoods hot for 3-4 hours after ‘normal’ cooking, without drying out or overbrowning.• The self cleaning oven liners (see Cleaningyour cooker) work better when fat splashesare avoided. Cover meat when cooking.• To reduce fat splashing when you addvegetables to hot fat around a roast, dry themthoroughly or brush lightly with cooking oil.• Sufficient heat rises out of the oven whilecooking to warm plates in the grillcompartment.• If you want to brown the base of a pastry dish, preheat the baking tray for 15 minutes beforeplacing the dish in the centre of the tray.• Where dishes may boil and spill over duringcooking, place them on a baking tray.Oven shelvesthe shelf guard should be at the back pointing upwardsThe oven shelves can be easily removed andrefitted. To refit the shelf, line up the shelf with a groovein the oven side and push the shelf back until theends hit the shelf stop. Lift up the front so theshelf ends clear the shelf stops, and then lowerthe front so that the shelf is level and push it fullyback. The HandyrackYou should read ‘the oven’ in the‘2 Minute Tour’ before all the followinginformationThe maximum weight that can be held by theHandyrack is 5.5kg (12lb).
