Understanding Your Device 43Entering TextThis section describes how to select the desired text inputmethod when entering characters into your device. Thissection also describes the predictive text entry system thatreduces the amount of key strokes associated withentering text.Your device is equipped with an orientation detector that cantell if the device is being held in an upright (Portrait) orsideways (Landscape) orientation. This is useful whenentering text.Text Input MethodsThere are three text input methods available:• Samsung keyboard (default): Samsung’s onscreen QWERTYkeyboard that can be used in both portrait and landscapeorientation.• Swype: a new way to enter text on touch screens. Insteadof touching each key, use your finger to trace over eachletter of a word.• Google Voice typing: allows you to enter text by speaking.To change the input method, see “Keyboards and InputMethods” on page 182.To choose a text input method while entering text:1. Touch the top of the screen and swipe downward.The Notification Panel displays.2. Touch Choose input method.The Choose input method pop-up displays.3. Touch an input method to activate it.For more information, refer to “Keyboards and InputMethods” on page 182.Using the Samsung KeyboardThe Samsung keyboard is a custom virtual QWERTYkeyboard, featuring optional predictive text. Input charactersby touching the onscreen keys with your finger or use speechrecognition.You can enable predictive text to have the Samsungkeyboard match your key touches to common words anddisplay them. The Personalization option learns from yourGmail, Facebook, and Twitter accounts. Log into theseapplications to enable the Samsung keyboard to learn fromyour text input.
