GETTING STARTED 1.171Setting SoundsYou can control the following sounds:• Ringer: You can adjust the ringer volume.• Key Sound: With this option set to “On,” a key tone sounds each timeany key is pressed.• Alarm Sound: You can turn the alarm sound on or off. With this optionset to “On,” an alarm tone sounds when an error occurs or faxcommunication ends.• Speaker: You can turn on or off the sounds from the telephone linethrough the speaker, such as a dial tone or a fax tone. With this optionset to “Comm.,” the speaker is on until the remote machine answers.You can adjust the speaker volume level using the On Hook Dial buttonor the handset.Speaker, Ringer, Key Sound and Alarm Sound1 Press Menu until “Sound/Volume” appears on the top line of thedisplay.2 Press the scroll button (W or X) to scroll through the options. PressEnter when you see the sound option you want.3 Press the scroll button (W or X) to display the status or loudness youwant for the option you have selected.For the ringer volume, you can select from “Off”, “Low”, “Med” and“High.” Setting “Off” means that the ringer turns off. The machineworks normally even if the ringer is turned off.4 Press Enter to save the selection.5 If necessary, repeat steps 2 through 4.6 To return to Standby mode, press Stop/Clear.Speaker VolumeTo adjust the volume using the On Hook Dial button:1 Press On Hook Dial. A dial tone sounds from the speaker.2 Press the scroll button (W or X) until you hear the loudness you want.The display shows the current volume level.3 Press Stop/Clear to save the change and return to Standby mode.To adjust the volume using the handset:(For USA only)1 Pick up the handset. A dial tone sounds from the earpiece.2 Press the scroll button (W or X) until you find the loudness you want.You can select either “High” or “Low.”3 Press Enter to save the selection and replace the handset.N OTE: You can adjust the speaker volume only when the telephone line isconnected.
