When the Key Stroke Fieldis empty, pressing the C key removes charactersfrom the Text Area.Rapid Character EntryRapid character entry is easy in any mode, usingthe Character Selection Field. As you entercharacters, your phone predicts the nextcharacter you might want and presents choicesin the Character Selection Field. When thecharacter you want appears, you may select it asdescribed in step 4 on page 50.For example, when you want to type the word“zhong guo ( ),” enter the first characterusing the following keystrokes; 9, 4, 6, 6, 1 and7. You don’t need to complete the Pinyin spellingto include “guo ( ).” With no extra typing, thecharacter displays conveniently in the CharacterSelection Field for you to choose.3. If you cannot find the character on thedisplay, scroll through the choices in theCharacter Selection Field by pressing theDown key. To move back, press the Up key.When the character you are typing appears inthe Character Selection Field, you may selectit, without completing the Pinyin spelling forthe character.4. To select a character, press the 1 key toactivate the Character Selection Field. Anumber (7 to ) is added to the beginning ofa corresponding character. With the CharacterSelection Field activated, a normal press onthe 7 key to the key selects thecorresponding character.Notes:• If you enter the first character of a name youassigned to a My Words item (see page 55), thedisplay shows you the character along with thePinyins for your keypress. To use the item, pressthe Right key to highlight the character and thenpress the key.• If you enter the first three characters of a MyWords item (see page 55), the remainingcharacters automatically display.
