TASCAM 2488neo 577 − RecorderRecording the punchWhen you are happy with the rehearsed punch material,you record the punch in the following way:1 Press the RHSL key so that the indicator goes out.2 Press and hold the RECORD key and press thePLAY key.The display shows• TAKE.Playback starts at the pre-roll point. Both the input source• and previously-recorded material can be monitored.When playback reaches the punch-in point, the• monitored signal on the armed track(s) is muted. TheRECORD indicator lights steadily.When playback reaches the punch-out point, the• recorded material is added to the monitored signal. TheRECORD indicator goes out.Playback continues to the post-roll point and stops.•If the REPEAT indicator is lit, the punch recording willcontinue to repeat (up to 99 times) until you press STOP,allowing you to select from a list of “multi-takes” (see“Checking the take” below).The time between repeat takes is about one second. Youcannot change this time.Like recording, an auto punch operation is undoable. It isshown in the HISTORY list on the UNDO/REDO screen(“UNDO and REDO” on page 64).In addition, as we mentioned earlier, the third choice whenyou press the AUTO PUNCH key, LAST TAKE LOAD,allows you to select any of the multi-takes from the lastpunch session.However, if you have recorded anything else, performed anundo or redo operation, or made any track editing opera-tions, the LAST TAKE LOAD option is not available whenyou press the AUTO PUNCH key.NOTEEven if you undo the recording that has overwrittenthe list of multi-takes, the multi-take list will not beavailable to you after the undo.If you change your mindAfter finishing the punchWhen you have finished the auto punch recording:1 Use the dial to highlight the take which you feelis the best (or if none of them was any good, selectORIGINAL, which is the unchanged version).2 Press YES/ENTER to select the selected take (or theoriginal version). A pop-up display asks you if youare sure that you want to use the take.3 Press YES/ENTER if you are sure, but if you changeyour mind to select another take, press NO/EXIT.NOTEYou must select one of the takes or the original to exitauto punch mode.The recording between the punch-in and punch-out pointsis now replaced by the selection. The AUTO PUNCH indi-cator goes out.After auto punch recording is complete, the TAKE LISTscreen shown below appears.You can make an instant check of the take by following theprocedure below.When the take is complete, a screen similar to the follow-ing appears:The screen above shows three takes and the original track.•Use the dial to highlight a take from the list, including• the original track before the punch was started.Press• PLAY to check the highlighted take by playing itback (starting at the pre-roll point, and continuing to thepost-roll point).If you are happy with the take, you can move to the next• stage below (“After finishing the punch” below).If you want to record another take, press and hold• RECORD, and press PLAY.Checking the take
