Fourth Edition • Fourth Printing Operator's ManualWork Area SafetyPart No. 214834 GTH-1056 13Fall HazardsAlways wear a seat belt whenoperating the machine.Always remain completely inside the cab whenoperating the machine.When getting in and out of the cab, face themachine, use the steps and handrails provided andalways maintain three-point contact.Do not use the steering wheel or any other controlsas handrails.Do not allow riders on the machineor forks.Do not lift personnel with thismachine unless it is equipped withan approved work platform.Collision HazardsKeep people, equipment andmaterial out of the work area.Do not operate the machinewhile people are under or nearan elevated boom, whether it isloaded or unloaded.Do not put the transmission into gear unless theparking brake is set.Do not drive the machine if visibility is obstructed.Do not raise the boom unless the parking brake isset.Do not operate in conditions without fenders toprotect debris from hitting the operator oraccumulating on the cab windows.Do not operate the machine with a faulty back-upalarm. The back-up alarm should sound when themachine is in reverse.Do not operate the machine in low light conditions.Operators must comply with employer, job site andgovernmental rules regarding use of personalprotective equipment.Do not drive the machine directly up to anyone.Falling Object HazardsOperate the machine at speeds that will keep theload under control. Start and stop movementssmoothly.Keep people, equipment andmaterial out of the work area.Do not operate the machinewhile people are under or nearan elevated boom, whether it isloaded or unloaded.Be sure the load is secure before lifting it.
