Fourth Edition • Fourth Printing Operator's ManualInspectionsPart No. 214834 GTH-1056 23Pre-operation Inspection Be sure that the operator’s, safety andresponsibilities manuals are complete, legibleand in the storage container located in theplatform. Be sure that all decals are legible and in place.See Inspections section. Check for hydraulic oil leaks and proper oillevel. Add oil if needed. See Maintenancesection. Check for battery fluid leaks and proper fluidlevel. Add distilled water if needed. SeeMaintenance section. Check for engine oil leaks and proper oil level.Add oil if needed. See Maintenance section. Air-filled tires models: Check for proper tirepressure. Add air if needed. See Maintenancesection.Check the following components or areas fordamage, improperly installed or missing parts andunauthorized modifications: Electrical components, wiring andelectrical cables Hydraulic hoses, fittings, cylinders andmanifolds Fuel and hydraulic tanks Drive motors and drive hubs Boom wear pads Tires and wheels Engine and related components Limit switches Steer and axle sensors (if equipped) Lights, alarms and beacons (if equipped) Pins, nuts, bolts and other fastenersCheck entire machine for: Cracks in welds or structural components Dents or damage to machine Excessive rust, corrosion or oxidation Be sure that only 48-inch forks are used withswing carriage. Be sure that all structural and other criticalcomponents are present and all associatedfasteners and pins are in place and properlytightened. Be sure the windshield and windows (ifequipped) are clean and free of obstructionsthat might limit visibility. After you complete your inspection, be surethat all guards, screens and compartmentcovers are in place and secured.
