7-2 Phaser 8400/8500/8550/8560 Color Printer Service ManualCleaning and MaintenanceService Cleaning Maintenance ProcedureCleaning is indicated if the printer is having print-quality or paper-feedingproblems. Some cleaning procedures, such as purging the jet nozzles aredone automatically when necessary. Other procedures, such as scrubbing thepaper-feed rollers with an alcohol-moistened, lint free wipe, must be done bycustomers, but only if the rollers are visibly dirty.Cleaning is indicated by any of the following:■ Light stripes or missing colors appear in prints.■ Ink smears or random streaks appear on the front or back of prints.■ Oily spots appear along the tops of prints.■ Mispicks or multiple picks occur at the media tray.■ Persistent paper jams inside the printer or at the media tray if the rollersare visibly dirty.■ Wiggly vertical stripes caused by too much oil created by a dirty DrumMaintenance Kit blade.■ Most print-quality problems can be corrected by running the cleaningprocedures on the printer’s Control Panel menu.CleaningCautionDo not use Rubbing Alcohol as it can contain water and oils that leaveundesirable residue on the printer parts. Never use Water to clean theprinter’s internal components.Clean dust build-up on the exterior of the printer. Inspect the vents on theexterior of the printer for dust.
