Busy Channel Lock-Out (BCLO)The BCLO feature prevents the radio’s transmitter from being activated if a signal strongenough to break through the “noise” squelch is present. On a frequency where stationsusing different CTCSS or DCS codes may be active, BCLO prevents you from disruptingtheir communications accidentally (because your radio may be muted by its own ToneDecoder). The default setting for the BCLO is OFF, and here is how to change that setting:1. Press and hold in the [MHz(SET)] key for one second, then rotate the DIAL knob to select “5 BCLO”.2. Press the [MHz(SET)] key momentarily to enable ad-justment of this Set Mode Item.3. Rotate the DIAL knob to set this Set Mode Item to “ON”(thus activating the BCLO feature).4. When you have made your selection, press and hold inthe [MHz(SET)] key for one second to save the new set-ting and exit to normal operation.Remember that BCLO is controlled by the Noise Squelch; if you have DCS orTSQ engaged, BCLO will inhibit transmission if a station is on frequency butnot transmitting the proper tone; BCLO will thus prevent you from interfering withthe other station’s transmission.55Miscellaneous SettingsFT-2980R Operating Manual
